Why do I need a website?
Here’s a food for thought. Do you really know important a website is? How frequent do you Google for something then stumble upon their official website, filled with information that you need? You wouldn’t realise it until you really think about it!
Tim Berners Lee (the www Godfather) says “The Google algorithm was a significant development. I’ve had thank-you emails from people whose lives have been saved by information on a medical website or who have found the love of their life on a dating website.”
Top 10 Reasons for a website
1. Bigger Audience
Even if you are a local business, and your market is locally based, an online presence will open your product or service to a bigger audience. The world-wide market of over 2 billion visitors online per day is available for a global presence!
Your website is an online brochure to potential customers and engenders trust (even though some visitors maybe sceptical).
3. Influence and Credibility
1000s of people potentially will visit your site and you can influence customer / client decisions. A well structured professional looking website can foster instant credibility with anyone.
4. Low cost
Essentially your only costs are a domain name (eg $10) and hosting charges (from $12 pa). So you can be in business for less than $25. The ability to test an idea without a huge capital commitment.
5. 24 x 7
Your business is visible even while you sleep!

You can start and run a business your way! No interference – the success will depend on you alone.
Let’s assume you have a business idea! The first step is choosing a domain name – do you choose a gimmicky name (eg Amazon.com, Google.com, FaceBook.com, YouTube.com) or a domain name that encapsulates your business (Blogger.com, Soundcloud.com, Slideshare.net, TripAdvisor.com or indeed SeoAdviser.info). Incidentally, using Alexa’s Top 500 List it was quite difficult to find examples of the second type! Of course, you may already have a business name and that will govern the choice of domain name!
