The Power of ReTweeting(RT) in Twitter|Stephen Fry Power Marketing!

witter is a great marketing medium. It is a great source of referral traffic, and we have other articles elsewhere about Twitter for Traffic.

So how does RT add even more traffic? First, construct a tweet that is useful or refers to website or page for further useful information. What you had for breakfast is unlikely to be RT’d unless you are Stephen Fry. For mere mortals you have to provide some real value. Oh Lordy Lordy this is no criticism of the eponymous SF – in fact we are avid subscribers!

If you tweet something interesting then the chances are greater for a RT. So let’s look at some numbers – say, you have 2000 followers. Then all 2000 followers will receive the tweet so they may RT for you. If you use the # hash tag, then an even greater audience will receive the tweet. So, for example, if your tweet is about SEO, then use the #SEO hashtag! An even greater audience will receive the original tweet – say 4000 twitters , and hopefully some kind souls will RT.

The Stephen Fry Factor

Imagine if Stephen Fry was to RT, then the marketing message would get distributed to 300,000 followers. How many of those might RT? Yes, twitter can be a truly powerful marketing medium! Hopefully you can appreciate the power of RT!

Follow RTStrategy

The obvious one first – use Twellow or similar to find Twitters with large followings in your “theme”. Follow them and you will often find that they will follow back (hint: look for Twitters with similar “followers” and “following”). So here is a second RT strategy: find twitters who have a propensity to re-tweet in your subject area (theme). Follow them and hope they will follow you back! We use TweetGrid to find RTers in our theme of interest.

In the example above, we have selected tweets with #seo hash tag and then looked for RT tweets (so it will have the format: RT @francophile: Plus the Tweet message). To prevent embarassment, we are using our account to illustrate the next step!. Click on the graphic icon for the twitter, and the User Info is revealed for the Twitter. Great, 3365 followers – so we have identified a large audience of potential re-tweeters! Within TweetGrid, you just click on the person image (to the right of the i symbol) to follow! With luck francophile will follow you.  If you get a result, your future tweets will be received by francophile and an RT is possible to his 3000 + followers!
